THE IDB HAS AWARDED TO IDP A STUDY TO ANALYZE THE IMPACT OF ICT IN THE RECYCLING MARKET IN LATIN AMERICA

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) based in Washington (USA), has awarded to IDP with the international consulting services for the preparation of a study to investigate the possibilities offered by ICT in the collection and processing of information regarding recycling processes and material movements.

The recycling market globalization increases the need for an international chain analysis of the product material that captures the different stages of their life cycle. For it, will be analysed all alternatives for tracking and monitoring the movements of waste that are discussed in the value chain, through the following steps:

• To identify how new software tools and electronic devices (such as radio frequency identification, RFID) can improve recycling worldwide.
• To study how new technologies (e-government, mobile systems and software, big data systems) are involved in recycling.
• Suggesting new technological products that can support, monitor and promote recycling in Latin America.
• Define a pilot project to be implemented in cities of three different sizes: Large (over one million), medium (Less than 500,000 inhabitants) and small (Less than 100,000 populations).

From this study it will be defined the most efficient, fair and economical way to study and establish the routes of waste in Latin America; focusing on the major needs of a new infrastructure for recycling that will contribute to increase in recycling rates..

This new contract consolidates IDP as specialist consulting company on environmental issues in Latin America and the Caribbean where it is currently doing similar works.
