Pneumatic MSW Collection from the Sabadell Downtown
Central and pneumatic collection network of urban waste of 4 fractions and 5.3 km in length, serving 9,500 people.
- Executive project
- Construction management
It is an emblematic action for the future of waste management and treatment in Sabadell, a completely automatic collection system that will make it so skips and collection lorries can be removed from the city centre and, therefore, gain public space all while reducing noise, odours and fumes. The system will enable the selective collection of 4 fractions – paper and cardboard, packaging, the organic fraction and the remaining waste fraction which means it is a new development nation-wide.
The project includes building a 1.000 m2 collection centre and a transport network that will connect the collection centre to letter boxes by means of a mesh network more than 5.3 km long. The network will be comprised of a carbon steel pipeline with a nominal diameter of 500 mm allowing for a waste transport speed inside of between 60 to 70 km/hour. More than 300 skips along the public roads will be replaced by smaller letter boxes so that the visual impact will also be considerably lowered. With this action, waste collection lorries will no longer be needed and 30,000 km a year in waste transport will be saved. This fact represents significant financial savings and also a reduction of 7.8 tonnes of CO2 emissions into the air.
